Introduction to Gospel Fingerstyle Guitar

Taught by Duck Baker.
Gospel music is such a familiar part of our cultural and musical landscape. It offers the fingerstyle guitarist a vast repertoire of melodic and lyrical compositions. In this lesson, Duck Baker explores and explains how this music can be arranged for fingerstyle guitar. Duck teaches arrangements of six well known Gospel songs. These are played in standard and dropped-D tunings. If you feel comfortable playing an alternating bass in the style of Mississippi John Hurt or Elizabeth Cotten then you will find this lesson helpful in expanding this technique to Gospel music. Duck gives historical background on each tune as well as phrase by phrase explanations of the arrangements. Each tune is clearly illustrated in a split- screen section making it easy to see what the right and left hands are playing. A detailed tab/music booklet is included as a PDF file on the DVD.

JOY AND REFLECTION  MB 99090

By Colin Mawby
This book is a practical alternative to the difficult and elusive art of improvisation. It contains thirty-six short interludes in the most common keys. Each key is represented by two pieces: one reflective and the other joyful. They are designed to fill short gaps, perhaps before or after a hymn or anthem, when a small amount of organ playing is called for. The interlude should be chosen to fit the key of the hymn of anthem it precedes or follows. These pieces are arranged in mostly manuals format, with no more than four pedal notes per piece. Beginning - Intermediate level. 48 Pages.

All songs are in melody form with lyrics and guitar chords.

This book presents 31 of the most loved old-time gospel songs arranged in three-finger style, complete with musical notation, banjo tablature, chords, and lyrics. There is something here for banjoists of all ability levels. Each song is presented first as a beginner-intermediate arrangement, played in the first position in Scruggs style. Most songs are then presented in a more challenging up-the-neck arrangement. The CD features five-string banjo solos played in three-finger style and accompanied by guitar, mandolin, and bass. This is a split-track recording - the lead banjo is on one channel and the accompaniment instruments on the other. After a brief introduction and tuning reference, all thirty-one songs from the book are played at performing tempo, with on verbal introduction or instruction. This is so the CD can be enjoyed as any other solo recording. Then, the faster songs are played again at slow tempo at the end of the recording.
