APPALACHIAN AUTOHARP
   Add to basketBasket

In this book, musician, entertainer, teacher, and recording artist Carol Stober provides melody lines, lyrics, chord symbols, and melody tablature for 35 tunes she learned in Appalachia. The stories woven through the music portray a mixture of life situations that were ever-present in the difficult struggle for survival of our ancestors. The lyrics of many of these songs, although sometimes harsh, give insight into the values of the Appalachian people. The autoharp tablature provides detailed indications for different types of thumb and finger strokes, plucking, and string pinching.

30 Folk Songs and Melodies from Around the World

Folk songs are a record of history which survive wars and revolution. They are derived from different phases of the human condition. Carried by gypsies, storytellers, peddlers, and migrant farmers throughout the continents, they are snapshots of the past, moments in time, frozen in song. The mandolin has found its way into a myriad of cultures. This collection contains folk tunes from Russia, Poland, Macedonia, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Peru with lyrics written in the original language with phonetic transliteration as well as English translations. Songs are written in both notation and tablature. A special section containing chord diagrams, scales, and a glossary of musical terms is included. This collection is intended to increase awareness of folk music. Magic Mandolin will appeal to mandolinists of all levels. The companion listening CD contains arrangements of eight of the tunes found in the book.

Arrangements for the Mountain Dulcimer in DAA Tuning

Book/CD Set by Madeline Macneil  - DAA is a beautiful tuning for the mountain dulcimer. This book contains 19 arrangements of traditional Irish, Welsh, French Canadian, Scottish, and American folk tunes and songs that are rich within their melodies, complemented by the DAA tuning. Although the DAA tuning results in predominantly linear movement of the fingers along the frets with jumps and runs along the melody or middle string, the richness of the DAA tuning more than compensates for extra finger movement. These arrangements are written in notation and tablature for the three-string dulcimer with chord symbols, with a mix of strumming and fingerpick/flatpick arrangements. Lyrics are included where appropriate. Beginning level of difficulty. The companion play-along CD features all of the tunes in the same order as the book, played by the author. Each tune name is announced, and spoken countoffs and cues for repeats and are also provided. The recording will help make the unique style of the dulcimer clear.
